"The Atlanta College of Pharmacy was founded in 1891, under the leadership of George Frederick Payne, as the first college of pharmacy in Georgia. It grew out of the pharmacy department of the Atlanta Medical College. Commencement Announcement, 1894Dean Reuben C. Hood was one of three founders of the Southern College of Pharmacy (founded in 1903). The SCP merged with Mercer University in 1959. Dr. Hood graduated from the Atlanta College of Pharmacy in 1894 and later received his pharmacy training at Atlanta School of Medicine.
